HYGIÈNE DES MAINS
Qu’est-ce que l’hygiène des mains?
L’hygiène des mains réfère au lavage des mains, soit avec de l’eau et du savon, soit avec un désinfectant pour les mains sans eau.
Pourquoi l’hygiène des mains est-elle importante?
Les organismes pathogènes peuvent survivre pendant des jours sur des surfaces ou des objets contaminés. Les mains sont facilement contaminées en se touchant ces surfaces ou objets et les organismes pathogènes sont introduits dans le corps en touchant les yeux, le nez ou la bouche ou en mangeant.
Quand dois-je effectuer l’hygiène des mains?
L’hygiène des mains devrait être effectuée dans les cas suivants:
- après les soins personnels (c.-à-d. se moucher, utiliser les toilettes)
- après avoir aidé un autre personne pour des soins personnels
- avant de préparer ou de manger de la nourriture
- après avoir touché des surfaces potentiellement contaminées (c’est-à-dire toute surface, linge ou articles utilisés par une personne malade; ou toute surface / objet touché par de nombreuses personnes, comme un chariot d’épicerie, etc.)
Les travailleurs de la santé ont d’autres exemples (en plus de ce qui précède) où ils devraient pratiquer l’hygiène des mains:
- avant et après tout contact avec un patient
- avant et après avoir mis / enlevé des gants
- après tout contact avec des matériaux ou des surfaces potentiellement contaminés
